Hay Bluff

A family favourite. Hay Bluff is the mountain on the left as you look out from the Cruck. A great walk which doesn’t take too long, with breathtaking views of mid Wales and only a 10 minute drive away.

The River Wye

You can drive or walk from here on a hot day for a dip in the river at Glasbury. The pebble beach, parking and on site toilets make it an ideal location for a summer’s day picnic with the family, or an early morning dip with the dog walkers. We do not endorse river swimming during the wet or winter months for safety reasons, and advise caution at all times. Canoe hire is also available in Glasbury village seasonally too.

The Roundabout at Begwyns Bluff

It is possible to see almost all of the Brecon Beacons National Park from the Roundabout at Begwyns Bluff, with a reasonably limited climb involved. Lesser known than its counterpart in Hay-on-Wye,  but no less spectacular, it’s usually a bit quieter too. The tree enclosed, wall lined Roundabout at the top also makes for an ideal mulled wine/mince pie/picnic opportunity depending on the time of year you’re visiting too. You might want to check out Google Maps before you go, but basically park up and follow the other walkers!

The Twmpa

There are some striking hikes around the Twmpa but please plan properly and take good care if you’re going to walk up or around the mountain. Alternatively there is some beautiful common ground (see location below) at the foot of the mountain which is an ideal spot for a picnic or for the kids to let off some steam.
